WordPress vs. ExpressionEngine

Posted on September 11, 2009 at 4:35pm / Filed under: ExpressionEngine, Screwing Around / 4 comments

I'll keep this short. I hear a lot of people and companies argue that WordPress is the greatest CMS for building dynamic Web sites. It's free, it's easy to use, and it's got a very active (and very talented) community… and those are all completely valid points. Lately though, I feel like I keep hearing arguments comparing WordPress to other systems, including ExpressionEngine, in terms of functionality, ease of use, etc. That's good and all, but having used numerous CMS's in my time, and after listening to the arguments, I can really only come to one conclusion… and what better way to present that conclusion than as a downloadable desktop wallpaper! So who wins in WordPress vs. ExpressionEngine? I'm afraid it's a disqualification.

Sorry, WordPress is not a CMS.

Enjoy, and let the flame war begin (by the way, I probably will not be responding to all the negative comments I prepare to receive)!

Couldn’t agree more, they’re simply not compatible to each other and both are great in their own turf.

Spot on! No need for flame wars, though. For folks who already know how to wrangle WP into a CMS for non-blog sites, it’s still probably easier for them to keep doing that rather than learning EE (and getting over the conceptual differences between the two.)

BUT - at the end of the day, the client/end-user/author will likely make more sense out of the EE concepts and user interface (especially if you are using the Structure module). The last thing we want to do is confuse our end users…EE is the better choice for us.

I think you have two things wrong here -

1. There should be no need for an apology.
2. There is no 1920x1200 or 1280x768 version.

Otherwise pretty much spot on!

@Hambo - What? Who has a screen that big? What year do you think this is, 2015? LOL! ;)

And you’re right… no need for apologies! I’m just telling the truth.

Thanks for your comments :)
